Body: I just think this is an ingenious idea. I haven't seen any of them, but I really really want to see 49 up. Can anybody recommend these films? If you don't know what these films are, basically when these kids were 7 years old, they were interviewed for a documentary called 7 up, and now every seven years, they are interviewed again, so this would be the 7th film in the series, and i've heard it's one of the best.
Body: Peter Watkins isn't technically a documentary filmmaker. I suppose it's debatable, but there is a great article by Michael Atkinson on Good magazine's site today. I've seen both Culloden and Punishment Park, both of which are aggressively political and provocative to the extreme. The article provides an excellent overview of his travails as a filmmaker.
Body: This film was way overhyped, I thought. It took itself way too seriously, (except for the commercials which were the most interesting part). It was less of a satirical mockumentary, and more of a "fake history lesson" that was about as interestingly told as my high school history text book. Nothing was very compelling about this movie to me, nor did I find it very humerous (except for the fake ads). Not recommended. Does NOT live up to the hype.
