Body: Since theology is based in faith on something that might happen or might have happened that is not actually based in reality but in faith-based suppositions rooted in something, like Christianity in general or the Bible, I would argue that some movies with religious-subtext, such as "Dogma," qualify as fantasy. Especially since we don't often get a chance to see angels with actual wings. Except in the movies.
Body: These two mega-trilogies (or six-logy, whatever the word is, for SW) are generally considered the cream of the crop of fantasy and movie blockbusters and pop culture. Which one is your favorite? Personally, I go back and forth. On the one hand, the original SW trilogy has been my favorite all my life. On the other hand, LOTR come from my favorite books and live up to all of my expectations. It's a tough one to call...! So, put in your vote!
Body: We still have a couple of weeks ago, but it's time for our annual discussion (which never gets very far, but I'm an optimist) about which fantasy movies from the past year were our favorites! For reference, as a refresher, use the Fantasy to Look Forward to (2008) list, because this list will disappear once the year does. I realize that some of the entries on that list actually have later release dates. When I take the list away, I'll shuffle some of those around, even if the listed year isn't correct, and research their impending release dates and put them in the appropriate upcoming list. I think I saw maybe four of these this year because I haven't had much time to go to the movie theater. I've mostly been using Netflix and haven't been watching too much fantasy. I gotta say, though, that it's hard to beat Wall-E and The Dark Knight this year. Both films took my breath away in some form or another. What would your picks be? The only rule is that they have to be fantasy! And.....go! :-D
Body: Hi fantasy lovers! You may have noticed if you joined the group that there is a list, currently locked, called "The Best Fantasy." I created that list when I created the group, mostly because it was an excuse for a list I could create, but most of the entries are what I think are the best. I locked it because I realized - I think we need a compiled list from the membership. Something a la some of these other groups I belong to...something like a poll, or a Top 5, or a list of collaborative recommendations (and credit to all from whom I am, uh, tweaking the idea). Therefore, it's time for you to weigh in! Pick your favorite fantasy movies. No fewer than one, no more than ten. Tell us why you think they are the best! With enough responses, we can compile our very own Best Fantasy list, and then, perhaps, we can Spout it for all of Spout to hear! Mwa ha! After all, who better to make this list than us? I'll let you get the ball rolling, since I already made that list...give us a start. I'll contribute my faves asap!
Body: Taking a cue from other groups, because I apparently lack originality today, I thought I would create a thread wherein us fantasy nerds (or least, casual fans) can introduce ourselves. I'll get the ball rolling: I'm Pippin06, also known as Kylie, but since I like that hobbit so much, I gave myself the Pippin handle in 2006 when I joined the group. I love fantasy because I love the escape! I often read books, watch movies, and write stories with fantasy themes. Lord of the Rings will forever be my true favorite fantasy, but I am pretty obsessed with Harry Potter and Star Wars too (if you think that's more fantasy than scifi). And that's me and my fantasy nerddom in a small nutshell. Just so's you know, I think it's ok to talk about science fiction here because it's a kind of fantasy. There's a discussion thread about that, in fact. So, feel free to make some acquaintances, ask questions, mingle online-style. And welcome to the group!
Body: Hello group - I just created a new group for credit sequence watchers. I'm trying to create a great list of movies that had things like outtakes in the credits and memorable visual effects or animations during the opening sequences. I know there were a bunch of fantasy movies with this going on but I can't remember them off the top of my head. Please join and help! http://www.spout.com/groups/creditslovers/default.aspx
Body: Hey Fantasy fans, Just to let you know, Spout is sending our publishing team to this year's Comic-con International in San Diego. It's kind a more general convention that covers super heros, comic books, gaming, anime, horror, fantasy, and sci-fi. It should be a good time. You can check out more about it in our Comic-Con group or on the Festival Coverage page starting next week thursday. Cheers, Christi
