Body: ...I haven't really liked Burton's last few films. I thoroughly enjoyed 'Big Fish', and thought perhaps it was a bit of a maturing in his filmmaking, away from the cartoon-ish qualities of a lot of his earlier film and more towards a magic-realism approach (though he always had elements of that). However, everything since then has to me almost felt like a regression of sorts--Corpse Bride seemed a bit of a rehashing of Beetlejuice/Nightmare Before Christmas, and Sweeney Todd? Well, I just plain didn't really care for it, though I thought the cast carried it through fairly well. Maybe I'm just being over-critical? Thoughts?
Body: I'm a little nervous about seeing Sweeney Todd, it sounds more like a horror movie than a creative "creepy done just right" movie.
Body: I saw the movie Big Fish and I really liked it. Its not as creepy as some other Tim Burton films, but very mysterious and eccentric. Does anyone know any other Tim Burton films similar to Big Fish?
Body: I hate scary movies. I loved The Nightmare Before Christmas, in the same way that I love haunted corn mazes. I recently watched Charlie and the Chocolate Factory which was almost as creepy as The Nightmare Before Christmas, and I loved it too. I don't watch that many movies and I don't claim to be a Tim Burton expert, but I think...that I like Tim Burton Movies. Here's my problem. Someone recently pointed out to me that Tim Burton may be be exploiting evil. Do I really want my future children watching cute dolls burning up and losing their eyeballs and Santa being tortued in a "hell like" place? Are Tim Burton movies just too evil...or are they creepy done just right?
