Body: For the gamer in you: E-@thletes From the back of the DVD case: Team 3D and Complexity are the top two professional counterstrike teams in the United States. They leave their girlfriends and travel the world to compete for thousands of dollars. Professional gaming has exploded in Europe and Asia, but the counterstrike community in the United States struggles to legitimize their "sport." My first comment was, "They have girlfriends, really?" Gamer biases aside, since I am one, this might be an interesting doc.
Body: Spout frequently receives DVD screeners for upcoming or newly released movies. We send those screeners to members who display particular insight and thoughtfulness in their writing. These are our Spout Mavens and this group is where they review and discuss the movies we send them.Want to be a Spout Maven? Here is what you have to do...Request membership to this group. We will review what you have written here at spout.com and make a decision. (We're pretty nice, if you don't make the cut the first time, we'll make suggestions on what to improve upon so you can try again.) We are looking for prolific movie watchers writing quality reviews and discussion posts within Spout. You need to have content in your Spout Profile including at least 5 editorial quality reviews already posted to your Spout Filmblog. Also, you need to reside either in the US or Canada since we can only ship to the Region 1 code (US and Canada). If you are accepted, we will periodically send you DVDs to screen. You are expected to write a review of the movie in your Spout Filmblog within one month of receiving the screener. The reviews should adhere to basic movie review guidelines (600-1000 words in length, cite actor and director names, be grammatically correct) and have movie titles linked to the corresponding movie page at spout.com. The DVDs are yours to keep as our thanks for making quality contributions to Spout. Please, give joining a shot and spend some time perusing our discussions. Thanks,Paul
Body: Manda Bala Directed by Jason Kohn. Starring Jader Barbalho, Claudio Fonteles, Helbio Dias, Juarez Avelar, Paulo Lamarao, Mario Lucio Avelar. Brazil is a nation where political and economic corruption and violent crime are a way of life for many, and filmmaker Jason Kohn examines some of the more unusual ways they manifest themselves in this documentary. In Manda Bala (Send a Bullet), Kohn's subjects include a plastic surgeon whose practice is dominated by the victims of kidnappers who lost their ears to their captors; a political figure who uses his frog ranch as a cover for illegal business operations which have made him a multi-millionaire; and an auto customizer whose specialty is bullet-proofing luxury cars. Manda Bala (Send A Bullet) won the Grand Jury Prize for Documentary at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
Body: I have 35 of these TOO!!! Uncounted From the back of the cover: Uncounted is an explosive new documentary that shows how the election fraud that changed the outcome of the 2004 election led to even greater fraud in 2006 and now looms as an unbridled threat to elections in 2008 and beyond. The controversial feature-length film by Emmy award-winning director David Earnhardt examines in factual, logical, and yet startling terms how easy it is to change election outcomes and undermine election integrity across the U.S. Beyond increasing the public's awareness, UNCOUNTED inspires greater citizen involvement in fixing a broken electoral system. As we approach the decisive election of 2008, UNCOUNTED will change how you feel about the way votes are counted in America. Sounds exciting...
