Body: Yup, I've not seen it yet because I'm wondering if it's worth seeing on celluloid. One friends who loves the stage version of Rent enough to marry it said it was a waste of time and money. What do you think? Should I go? Should I wait for the DVD? Is it worth seeing, but should I use the gift certificate spouse Justin won to pay for it?
Body: Here are the musicals that will be performed in Grand Rapids, Michigan, in the month of September. For those of you Spouters who don't know, Spout is based in Grand Rapids, which is why this post begins there (and myself and the other group leader, Ms_Maxwell, are here). However, if there are musicals going on around you locally, please feel to post them in the appropriate month. After all, we're musical lovers and want to hear about all musicals regardless of where they're being performed. Community Circle Theater THE FULL MONTY September 14-16, 20-24, 27-30 By Terrence McNally and David Yazbek Tickets on sale to the general public September 5. Based on the Academy Award-winning movie, The Full Monty is the endearing tale of a group of unemployed men down on their luck, lacking self-confidence, and frustrated with life, women, and work who decide that regardless of looks or talent, they’re going to make money by becoming strippers. With nothing to lose, they decide to up the stakes by going for “the full monty”—total nudity. The Full Monty is bittersweet, hilarious, outrageous, and kind-hearted. The toe-tapping Broadway musical was nominated for 10 Tony Awards. 1607 Robinson Road SE Grand Rapids, Michigan 49506 Box Office: (616) 456-6656 Grand Rapids Civic Theater A CHORUS LINE A Chorus Line Sept. 28 - October 14, 2006Wed: 7:30pm, Thur-Sat: 8:00pm, Sun: 3:00pmA CHORUS LINE is the stunning, instant-classic musical conceived and choreographed by Michael Bennett, with music by Marvin Hamlisch. Memorable songs include What I Did For Love; The Music and the Mirror; and One (Singular Sensation). A Chorus Line was a box-office smash on Broadway, winning numerous awards, as well as a special Gold Tony award as Broadway's longest-running musical at the time. The long-awaited revival will open in New York City this fall; Civic Theatre is privileged to perform it at the same time as the revival. Grand Rapids Civic Theatre30 N. Division Ave., Grand Rapids, MI 49503 Phone: 616-222-6650 Broadway Theater Guild (professional, off Broadway) AIDA Sep 26 - Oct 1, 2006 Winner of four 2000 Tony® Awards, Elton John and Tim Rice’s AIDA is a musical bursting with contemporary energy that tells of the love triangle between Aida, a Nubian princess stolen from her country, Amneris, an Egyptian princess, and Radames, the soldier they both love. AIDA is an epic and classic tale of love, loyalty, betrayal, and courage, with an exhilarating Tony® and Grammy® Award-winning score by Elton John and Tim Rice, their first collaboration since writing the music for THE LION KING together. Time Magazine proclaims AIDA “A big, bright show with luscious Elton John melodies.” Purchase season ticket subscriptions directly through BTG's secure online form (currently being upgraded) or call us at 616.235.6285. Body: Hey, musical lovers. Let's welcome Kami, our newest member! I want everyone in this group to answer the following questions. 1) What was the first musical you ever saw on stage? 2) What musical have you seen the most? 3) Of the musicals you've seen...which has the worst storyline? 4) Of the musicals you've seen...which has the worst music? 5) "..."...which has the most annoying music? 6) What is your desert island musical? 7) If a Broadway producer and said, "We want your talent so much that we'll produce around you. Choose your musical and the character and we'll make it happen," how would you respond? (Besides having the guy checked out or pinching your arm to make sure you were awake!) 8) Which musical is your guilty pleasure? 9) All-time favorite musical?
