Body: The UICA just finished showing the French comedy The Valet and Charles Burnett's film Killer of Sheep. Here is what's coming up for August. PAPRIKA In the latest anime from director/co-writer Satoshi Kon (Tokyo Godfathers, Perfect Blue), Dr. Atsuko Chiba is a cutting-edge research psychotherapist whose alter ego, Paprika, can enter people's dreams and uncover the source of their neuroses. At her lab, a powerful new device, the DC-MINI, promises to revolutionize the world of psychotherapy, but in the wrong hands it could annihilate a dreamer's personality while they are asleep. When one of the DC-MINI prototypes is stolen and several lab workers begin to experience strange dreams, Atsuko realizes someone is using the device to destroy people's minds. “A gorgeous riot of future-shock ideas and brightly animated imagery, the doors of perception never close.” - The New York Times - Manohla Dargis Website: sonyclassics.com/paprika Opens August 3 - Showtimes Forthcoming
Body: We've only got six weeks to prepare for this years Waterfront Film Festival in Saugatuck Michigan! Check out their website now for pass information to make it an easy weekend. Only coming in town for one night? Then I highly recommend the Thursday opening night party that is held in the street where all the film guests will collect for a summery night of live music, a few drinks served by local sponsors, and a free movie in the street at dusk. This is very much a happy-hour attitude crowd but in the great outdoors of western Michigan along the Kalamazoo river. This is also the only day that all the film guests will be gathering in one area. Through out the weekend they'll be scattered at very venues and restaurants around town. Can you escape two nights? Set aside a day just for movies and get a day pass for as little as $60 and enjoy priority seating for every film you want. Don't like the film you picked? Just leave and catch another also starting at another venue in town. Some passes even provide entry to the evening's party.Check out: www.waterfrontfilm.org for more information.
Body: Hello fellow Grand Rapidians!!Every once and while throught the summer the Portable Cinema project screens free outdoor movies in various public parks and open spaces throughout Grand Rapids. Tonight, Thursday the 13th, is one such night. there will be a screening of Friday the 13th at dusk in Eastown's Wilcox Park. It's of course totally free- you just need to bring a chair, probably a blanket, and definitely some bugspray for this location!!I am really excited about seeing this movie in this location because it is so dark and woody. spooky!more info about this screening!!
