Find movies you'll love

10 features that will knock your socks off. (If you're wearing ten pairs of socks.)

1. Trade recommendations.

Movies are meant to be shared.
  • Share your favorites
Tell the Spout community about movies worth watching in the Community Recommendations group. While you're there, you'll probably find movies to love, too. Make recommendations.
  • Build lists
Click on the "Lists" tab at the top of your screen. Once you create a list, add movies to it by clicking the "Add to list" link under the movie posters. Looking for list ideas? You could start with your Top 10 High School Movies, get creative with Top 10 Nerd Triumphs, or find list ideas in the Top 5 group.
  • Find related movies
If you loved a movie and want to find more like it, go to its movie page and click on the "Related Movies" tab. On the right of the screen you'll see all the lists people have added the movie to. This is an excellent way to find new movies and get connected with people like you.
  • Follow the experts
The Spout "mavens" are the most active members of our community, and they love giving recommendations. Find the right maven for you and "follow" them by adding them to your contacts. Check out their ratings, lists and reviews, or feel free to reach out and ask them for recommendations. Find the right maven for you.
  • Tell a friend
When you see a movie that has your friend's name written all over it, here's a quick way to let them know:
    • On the movie page, click the "Recommend it" link underneath the movie poster.
    • Enter your friend's name in the pop-up message and hit "Send."

2. Join the conversation.

There's always conversation happening on Spout. To find the most recent discussions, click the "Groups" link at the top of your screen, then "Discussions." If you're interested and have something to say, don't be shy--jump in! Find recent discussions.

Also, find out what people are saying about your favorite film on its movie page.

3. Filmography: the movie-lover's map.

Every actor and filmmaker on Spout has a "Filmography" tab on their player page. You're probably wondering, "So what?" Let's say you're a big fan of Will Ferrell. Check out Will Ferrell's filmography and you can:

  • Rate movies
  • Add movies to your "I want to see it" list
  • Watch trailers

4. Tags

It's the sneaky, ninja , stealth-attack search.

Here's an example: if you've seen a lot of vampire flicks, tags may help you find some you haven't seen.

  • Search "vampire" and click the "Tags" tab.
You'll see all the films that the Spout community has tagged with "vampire." Check out movies tagged with "vampire".
  • You can also find related movies by clicking the tags on a movie page. If you click the "vampires" tag, or "undead," or "bloodsucker," you'll get different lists. For example, see all the tags for Blade II.

Don't forget to add tags of your own--you'll help others find movies they'll love!

5. Film festival coverage on SpoutBlog.

If there's an interesting festival going on, chances are we'll be there. We cover the movies you want to see, treasure hunt for new movies, and interview filmmakers on the bleeding edge of the industry. Check out festival coverage on blog.spout.com.

6. Import your Netflix queue.

Importing your Netflix queue is a quick and easy way to build your "I want to see it" list. Just hit the "Profile" tab, then the "Netflix queue" link, and you can import whatever lists you have on Netflix using RSS feeds (found at the bottom of the page on Netflix.com).

7. Add movies to your Netflix queue.

Click the Netflix logo on a movie page and you will go directly to the movie on Netflix.

8. Double your movie blog's exposure.

Do you blog about movies somewhere other than Spout? You can share those thoughts with the Spout community in two easy steps:

  • Step 1: Add the RSS feed for your blog in your account settings.
  • Step 2: When you write about a movie in your blog, include a link to its movie page on Spout.

Now your blogposts--specifically those relating to your movie thoughts--will appear on your Spout Filmblog and show up in your contacts' feeds. You can also grab the link or RSS feed to your Filmblog and promote it on your own site, giving your visitors easy access to all of your movie-related thoughts.

9. "Calling all group members..."

Do you want everybody in your group to help you remember that movie with the guy on the train?

  • Go to the group page and click the "Members" tab.
  • Click "Send message to group" and...yep, you guessed it. Your message will go to the whole group.

(And here's a tip: you get more responses if you include discussion links in your messages.)

10. Take a seat on FilmCouch.

FilmCouch, Spout's Webby-nominated weekly podcast, is the perfect way to find out what to watch next weekend or next month. Old and new films, indie films and Hollywood movies and everything in between--it's all wrapped up into one conversation on FilmCouch. Listen to FilmCouch.
