Biography
Veteran cinematographer William Nobles spent most of his early career as an associate of B-Western hero
Jack Hoxie, whom he followed from small-scale Sunset Productions to Universal. Remaining Hoxie's cameraman for several of the star's low-budget sound oaters from Majestic Pictures, Nobles later switched to genre newcomer Republic Pictures, where he became a mainstay with both the
Gene Autry and the
Roy Rogers units. Like most of the studio's cinematographers, Nobles did his fair share of serials, including
Zorro Rides Again (1937),
Drums of Fu Manchu (1940), and
Adventures of Captain Marvel (1941). ~ Hans J. Wollstein, All Movie Guide
