Biography

Beefy British character actor Wally Patch did a little bit of this, a little bit of that in show business before his 1920 film bow. Patch resumed his stage work after this debut, returning to films in earnest in 1927. Most of his appearances were in cockney comedy vignettes in such ribticklers as Get Off My Foot (1935) and Gasbags (1940); he had some of his finest screen moments as a confused constable in director Carol Reed's Bank Holiday (1938). Wally Patch was active into his eighth decade, making his final appearance in 1967's Poor Cow. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
