Biography

Silverio Blasi is best remembered in Italy as an innovative television director who over his two-decade-long career, helmed over 200 television shows, most of which were historical dramas and biographical series. Blasi also occasionally acted in feature films. Before finding success on TV, Blasi aspired to become a movie director and trained at Rome's Academy of Dramatic Art. Blasi tried to establish himself in cinema, and was even working on a film starring a young actor, Marcello Mastroianni, until a producer killed the project because the actor "lacked the charisma of a potential star." Other attempts for Blasi to break into film failed and so he turned to television directing. His best-known programs include the nationally popular drama Eleonora, and his biographies of Michelangelo and Caravaggio. Some of Blasi's acting credits include Lucky Luciano (1973), and Il Caso Moro (1986). ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide
