American cinematographer Robert Planck became a director of photography in 1929 and subsequently became noted for his exceptional work with black-and-white film. Planck filmed pictures for Fox and other major studios; throughout the '40s and '50s, Planck worked for MGM, where he was responsible for filming many of MGM's glittering productions in color and in black-and-white.
