Biography

Yugoslavian director, screenwriter, and journalist Purisa Djordjevic has won several international awards for his work, which is often categorized as part of the "Belgrade School" of filmmaking. Djordjevic entered the film industry in the 1950s after studying art history and working as a journalist for the Belgrade daily Politika. After making several documentary shorts, Djordjevic co-wrote the feature film Opstinsko Dete/A Child of the Community (1953). His first solo effort was Dva Zrna Grozdja/Two Grapes (1955). In addition to directing, Djordjevic co-wrote screenplays for others. He also penned a few books. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide
