Biography

Though his credits are relatively brief, screenwriter Peter Hedges has been involved in mostly successful projects throughout his career. After graduating from North Carolina School of the Arts, he co-founded the Edge Theater and proceeded to write for the stage. His plays Baby Anger, Good as New, and Imagining Brad have all been published and performed. He is the author of the novels An Ocean in Iowa and What's Eating Gilbert Grape, which he also adapted for the screen. His next two screenplay adaptations, A Map of the World and About a Boy, were both critically acclaimed films that earned Hedges several award nominations. He made his debut as a writer/director with the digital video project Pieces of April, which debuted at the 2003 Sundance Film Festival. ~ Andrea LeVasseur, All Movie Guide
