Biography

American screenwriter Robert N. Lee kicked off his film career with 1923's Cameo Kirby. From 1927 until the mid-1930s, Lee specialized in crime melodramas and murder mysteries. He worked on several of Warner Bros' Philo Vance entries, contributed to the lightning-paced murder yarn Fog Over Frisco (1934), and shared an Academy Award nomination for Fog Over Frisco. Robert N. Lee's later scriptwork included such "historicals" as Tower of London (1939) and Captain Kidd (1945)--which, not surprisingly, sometimes played like costumed versions of his 1930s crime flicks. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
