Biography
A student of music and art while attending college in London and Rome, Peter Hunt chucked it all to enter films in 1947 as a lower-level clapper boy. Hunt established himself as one of Britain's ace film editors in the mid-1950s. Beginning with Dr. No (1962), Hunt was principal editor of the annual James Bond epics. He was booted up to director on the 1969 Bond flick
On Her Majesty's Secret Service. Curiously, this was Peter Hunt's last association with Secret Agent 007: since that time, he directed such action films as
Death Hunt (1981), Wild Geese II (1982) and
Assassination (1987), as well as the Anglo-Italian TV miniseries
Quo Vadis (1985).In his later years, Hunt has directed the
Hart to Hart "reunion" telefilms starring
Robert Wagner and
Stefanie Powers. Peter Hunt should not be confused with American-born director Peter H. Hunt (
1776,
Bully etc.). ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
