Biography

Cinematographer Gerald Hirschfeld began working as a director of photography in the late 1940s. He left films in the early '50s, but returned to cinematography in the mid-1960s where he gained respect for his versatility and talent. Mel Brooks' Young Frankenstein (1974), shot in black and white, is an example of Hirschfeld at his best. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide
