Biography

Lighting director Jordan S. Cronenweth has been photographing films since 1969 and is considered among the most creative cinematographers in the business. Cronenweth seems to prefer working on independent features and has been behind such innovative films as Blade Runner (1982), Altered States and U2: Rattle and Hum (1988). He made his debut as a full-fledged cinematographer in 1970 with Brewster McCloud. Before becoming a director of photography, Cronenweth studied engineering at Los Angeles City College. He broke into the film buisness working as a gofer with the Columbia Pictures lab and the found work shooting film in Oklahoma and dropped out of school. to do it full time. Cronenenwith was diagnosed with Parkinson' s disease in 1978, but this did not stop him from working until the disease ended his life on November 29, 1996. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide
