Biography
Briton Michael Barringer landed a plum assignment when, in 1928, he was hired to write and co-direct the profitable adventure film
Q Ships (1928). Curiously, Barringer never directed anything else, confining his activities to screenwriting for the balance of his career. Most of his films were programmers and quota quickies, bearing such come-hither titles as
Murder at Monte Carlo (1934),
Death on the Set (1936) and
Gaol Break (1936). Michael Barringer's one significant "A" assignment of the 1930s was the historical epic Rhodes of Africa (1936), which he co-scripted with
Miles Malleson and
Leslie Arliss. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
