Biography
Also known as Robert Hardy Andrews, American screenwriter Robert D. Andrews is best remembered for writing the story upon which the 1932 omnibus film
If I Had a Million was based. When the basic premise of this film later resurfaced on the TV anthology series
The Millionaire (1955-60), Andrews sued, claiming unauthorized use of his original material. His other movie credits include the Monogram
Jackie Cooper vehicles of the late 1930s, and several entries in the Columbia-
Boris Karloff "mad doctor" series of 1939-41. On a more prestigious level, he worked on the scripts of the big-budget war flicks
Bataan (1942) and
Cross of Lorraine (1943). He spent his last active decade specializing in adventure films, culminating with 1962's Tarzan Goes to India. Robert D. Andrews also penned several novels, some of which, notably Great Day in the Morning, were transferred to the screen. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
