Biography
Noted for her versatility, Theoni V. Aldredge has become one of the most prominent costume designers in the entertainment industry. Born Theoni Vachilioti in Salonika, Greece, she received her training at the American School in Athens and at the Goodman Memorial Theatre, Chicago before launching her career in 1950. After making a name for herself in the theatrical world, Aldredge began working on Hollywood features in the mid-'60s. Over the course of her still flourishing career, she has won major awards for designing costumes for films, television, theater, opera and ballet in both the U.S. and Great Britain. These awards include an Oscar and a British Academy Award for her work on
