Biography
Beginning her career as an opera singer and star of Broadway musicals and radio shows, Kitty Carlisle also appeared in a few films during the early '30s, including the
Marx Brothers' classic
A Night at the Opera. Carlisle also occasionally appeared in films of the early '40s, but she is best remembered by baby boomers for her appearances on numerous game shows from the late '50s through the '60s, notably To Tell the Truth. She was appointed chairwoman of the New York State Council on the Arts in 1976. The widow of playwright/director
