Biography
German leading actor Harry Piel managed to weather two World Wars, remaining active in films from 1913 to 1950. Piel turned director in 1924, turning out such box-office successes as
Mann Gegen Mann (1928) and
Artisten (1935). His last directorial effort was 1953's Gesprengte Gitten (aka
