Biography

French screenwriter and director Suzanne Schiffman got her start working as a supervisor of continuity for Godard and Truffaut after receiving a degree in art history from the Sorbonne in Paris. In time, she became an assistant director for Truffaut and also collaborated on a few of his films. In 1973, Schiffman received an Oscar nomination for her screenplay for Truffaut's Day for Night. The character played in the film by Nathalie Baye is autobiographical. Schiffman has also penned scripts for a few Jacques Rivette films. In 1987, she made her feature film-directing debut with Sorceress. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide
