Biography
Japanese scriptwriter Oguni Hideo worked in close association with filmmaker
Akira Kurosawa from the early '50s through the mid-'80s. He first collaborated with Kurosawa and fellow screenwriter Hashimoto Shinobu on Ikuru (
Doomed) (1952). The trio last collaborated on
Ran (1985), an adaptation of King Lear that won international critical acclaim, but did poorly in Japan and resulted in Kurosawa's taking a several year-long hiatus from filmmaking. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide
