Biography

In Hollywood from the mid-1910s, writer/director Alvin J. Neitz began his screen career with the small-scale Centaur company and never really progressed far beyond the boundaries of poverty row. He did work for Universal in the late 1910s -- and again in the 1930s -- but spent most of his time directing some of the cheekiest Westerns and action melodramas around at the time. Neitz continued to churn out inexpensive potboilers and serials at an alarming rate until his retirement in the early '40s, mainly for companies such as Big Four (which was far from "Big") and Cosmos, often working under the pseudonym of Alan James. ~ Hans J.
