Biography
Casting director Maude Spector was among the first in her profession to work independently of major studios. She started out with Denham Studios during the 1940s and then jumped out on her own. It was Spector who cast
Elizabeth Taylor
in
National Velvet
(1945). Other notable films on which she worked include
Great Expectations
(1946),
Around the World in 80 Days
(1956),
Lawrence of Arabia
(1962), and
The Boys From Brazil
(1978). Spector also helped find stars to appear in the television miniseries
Shogun
and
The Far Pavilions
