Biography
Italian leading lady Mariangela Melato earned critical acclaim for her debut performance in
Elio Petri's La Classe Operaia Va in Paradiso (The Working Class Goes to Heaven). Before that, she had trained at the Milan Theater Academy and worked on-stage. A handsome blonde, she worked closely with some of Europe's best-known directors including Lina Wertmuller,
Claude Chabrol, and
Vittorio De Sica. Her English-language films include
Flash Gordon (1980) and
