Biography

Hungarian cinematographer Lajos Koltai gained international attention by way of his many collaborations with his brilliant countryman, director Istvan Szabo. Koltai's unerring cinematic eye contributed mightily to the success of Szabo's thematic trilogy Mephisto (1981), Colonel Redl (1985) and Hanussen (1988). Koltai has also worked on a number of American projects, notably director Luis Mandoki's Gaby--A True Story (1987) and White Palace (1990). In 1991, Lajos Koltai was reteamed with Istvan Szabo on the British-produced Meeting Venus. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
