Biography
John S. Robertson began his two-decade Hollywood career at Vitagraph in 1915. Robertson did some acting and scriptwriting before concentrating on directing. His silent-film directorial credits include the 1920
John Barrymore
version of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde,
Mary Pickford
's
Annie Laurie
(1927), and Garbo's
The Single Standard
(1928). He was also instrumental in building up the careers of several promising newcomers, notably actress
May McAvoy

). During the talkie era, he spent most of his time at RKO Radio, helming such films as
Little Orphan Annie
(1932) and
Grand Old Girl
(1935). John Stuart Robertson's final film was the 1935
