Biography
A successful novelist, James Edward Grant began writing for films in the mid '30s, and scripted several
John Wayne actioners, including
Allan Dwan's
Sands of Iwo Jima,
John Farrow's
Hondo,
John Ford's
Donovan's Reef, and many others, as well as Wayne's own
The Alamo. Grant also directed his scripts for Wayne's
Angel and the Badman and the circus murder mystery
Ring of Fear, starring
Clyde Beatty and Mickey Spillane. Other notable films scripted by Grant are
Otto Preminger's Danger -- Love At Work,
Budd Boetticher's
The Bullfighter and the Lady (produced by Wayne), and
Michael Curtiz'
The Proud Rebel, among others. Grant's last screenplay, for the comedy-western
Support Your Local Gunfighter, was produced four years after his death. ~ All Movie Guide
