Biography
The camerawork of noted Swedish cinematographer Gunnar Fischer is noted for the ways in which he is able to blend, balance, or contrast black-and-white imagery to create the rich variety of textures, especially with outdoor scenes. He is best known for his collaboration with Ingmar Bergman on such films as
The Seventh Seal (1956) and
Wild Strawberries (1957). Fischer started out in 1935 as an assistant cameraman and seven years later he became a full-fledged lighting director. In 1960, he and Bergman had a major argument and went their separate ways. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide
