Biography

The son of film director Fred Niblo and vaudeville entertainer Josephine Cohan (George's sister), Fred Niblo Jr. launched his own career as a screenwriter in 1931. Among Niblo's earliest screen credits was Howard Hawks' The Criminal Code, which earned him an Oscar nomination. After several years on the Columbia Pictures writing staff, he moved to Warner Bros., where he worked on films both big-budgeted (Fighting 69th) and B-grade (Nine Lives Are Not Enough). Active until at least 1950, Fred Niblo Jr. spent the last decade of his career at RKO and 20th Century Fox. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
