Cinematographer Franz Planer was born in Karlsbad (now Karlovy Vary), Czechoslovakia. Planer was a portrait photographer until 1919 when he began working in German film. He did not come to Hollywood until 1937, using the pseudonym Frank F. Planer. Planer is best known for his work with director
