Biography

Glasgow-born actress Eileen Herlie made her first professional appearance with the Scottish National Players in 1938. Four years later, Eileen made her London debut as Mrs. DeWinter in Rebecca. Her most celebrated stage work has included The Eagle Has Two Heads, Medea, and a handful of plays written by "renaissance man" Peter Ustinov. In films from 1946, Eileen Herlie had the distinction of playing Queen Gertrude opposite two on-screen Hamlets: Laurence Olivier in 1948, and Richard Burton in 1964. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
