Biography

Trained at the Moscow conservatory, composer Constantin Bakaleinikoff relocated to California after the revolution, where he served as conductor for the Los Angeles Philharmonic. He began his Hollywood career as a free-lancer, then held the position of musical director at Paramount and MGM. In 1940, he briefly worked alongside his namesake Mischa Bakaleinikoff at Columbia. Then he moved a mile or so down Gower Street to RKO Radio, where he would remain until the studio folded in 1956. During his RKO years, Constantin Bakaleinikoff earned Academy Award nominations for his work on The Fallen Sparrow (1943), Higher and Higher (1943) and None but the Lonely Heart (1944). ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
