Biography

A director of photography in his native Italy since 1954, Carlo DiPalma was virtually unknown until his lavish color work on director Michelangelo Antonioni's Red Desert (1966). Then came Blow-Up (1968), Antonioni's biggest commercial success and one of the finest (and most often imitated) photographic achievements of the last 40 years, bar none. DiPalma continued contributing superior camerawork for other directors before making his own megging debut with 1973's Teresa la Landra. From 1985 onward, DiPalma has been principal photographer of the films of director Woody Allen. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
