Biography

Almost always with a scowl on his face, Jerome Bolton Ward, nicknamed "Blackjack," was a regular supporting player in B-Westerns from 1930-1940, almost always playing a henchman, cattle rustler, or stage robber. Ward's career came to a screeching halt on February 23, 1940, when he shot and killed fellow B-Western player John Tyke during an argument in Gower Gulch, the area of Sunset Boulevard near Columbia Studios where the cowboys would congregate before and after work. Found guilty of voluntary manslaughter, Ward would resume his career a few years later. ~ Hans J. Wollstein, All Movie Guide
