Biography
Son of actor
Bernard Blier, Blier entered the French film industry assisting the directors Denys de la Patelliere and
Christian-Jaque. After helming short documentaries, Blier directed his first feature Hitler? Connais Pas! in 1962. In the '70s he began attracting international attention with his dark satires of sex and society, Les Valseuses (aka
Going Places), Preparez Vos Mouchoirs (
Get Out Your Handkerchiefs), and
Buffet Froid, all with Gerard Depardieu. Blier's vision became even more scathing over the '80s, with his intergenerational love story Beau Pere, his gay-themed satire
Tenue De Soiree (
Menage), and his adultery comedy Trop Belle Pour Toi (
Too Beautiful For You). ~ All Movie Guide
