Re: Best use of music in a scene
By yrfunnyvalentine in Movie Soundtracks
"My favorite that has yet to be mentioned is in Shaun of the Dead, when they are fighting zombies in the bar while Queen's Don't Stop Me Now is playing, and pretty much everything is happening to the beat of the music.... awesomely hilarious stuff. " [More]
Upcoming films and midnight shows

"I found out yesterday that I have to work 5 to close on Thursday May 3rd, which means I have to work for the midnight showings of Spiderman 3. I'm kind of disappointed, because I wanted to see it at midnight, but at the same time, I LOVE working midnight shows of movies that people are really excited to see. I remember last year I worked for the midnight shows of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, and it was an awesomely fun time. Sure, the theater was busy as all-get-out, but the people who came to see the film were really into it all and some were dressed up and whatnot, so that was really great. However, working midnights for movies that nobody really wants to see right at midnight (Eragon and Casino Royale) are a real drag, especially since it means being at the theater until around 3 am. Oh! Speaking of Pirates of the Caribbean, the theater I work at already has tickets on sale for the midnight show of At World's End, as well as tickets for opening wee ... " [More]

"He also directed two hilarious and not-so-violent music videos a few years back for one of my favorite artists, Charlotte Hatherley! He's done some other music videos for British acts too. Check them out on youtube or his fansite. " [More]

Re: Introduce Yourself
By yrfunnyvalentine in Introduce Yourself
"Hello! My name is Lauren and I'm a 24 year-old college grad with a B.A. in English. Currently I work at a movie theater in Grand Rapids, MI to pay the bills until I can find something more suitable and permanent. Not that I don't love working there (free movies, yay!), it's just that I can't see myself there in the years to come. I hope either to find a job in the copy editing field, or to go back to school to get an M.A. in TESOL (teaching English to speakers of other languages). I haven't quite decided yet. I took two years of Japanese language courses while in college, and I am quite sorry to say that even though I only graduated last year, I've forgotten most of it. T_T. I took a few film-related courses while in school, and I must say, I'm really glad I did, because I got to watch some really amazing movies that I probably never would have seen otherwise. Which is also why I'm glad I heard/read about this site in the Grand Rapids Press ... " [More]
Added films
By yrfunnyvalentine in From Asia With Love
"I've been randomly adding movies to the lists here. I noticed that some of my favorite Asian films weren't listed and I thought I would like to add them in case some of you haven't seen them and are looking for some interesting movies to watch. I added a Korean film (Save The Green Planet), a few Chinese ones (Happy Times and The Road Home, a Japanese movie (Takeshi Kitano's Blind Swordsman Zatoichi which is for some reason only listed as Zatoichi) and I think one Thai movie (Citizen Dog). If you're looking for some feedback on what I liked about them, I'd be happy to share, but I think it would take up too much space and brain-power for me to type it all here. Just send me a message or something if you're interested in knowing more about them! " [More]

Disturbia
By yrfunnyvalentine in yrfunnyvalentine Blog

"I went to see Disturbia today for several reasons. One was that my boyfriend kinda wanted to see it. Another was that I work at a movie theatre, and so the two of us could go for free. The third, and most important reason, is that said movie theatre is in the process of switching to an all-digital format (or at least 90% digital anyway) and today the first four all-digital theatres were up and running, and Disturbia was the best of the four movie choices. The others were Perfect Stranger, Redline and Barnyard. I expected this movie to be pretty, well, bad. And honestly, it wasn't great, but it was much better than I expected. It was creepy to the extreme, and the acting was decent, better than decent by David Morse, and for once I didn't want to punch Shia LaBeouf in the face. However, I found it pretty lame that the last line of the movie was about Youtube, but the end up until that point was pretty good. I was pleasantly surprised. " [More]
