Re:Re:Re:Alfred Hitchcock

"I've never felt like Hitchcock did me wrong (except maybe with 'Topaz'...not so good).  'Rear Window' I watch, literally, probably 6 times a year.  I love the self-containment of it.  You feel like you're actually kind of hanging out with Jimmy S. in his apartment, and that's an idea I can really support.  Speaking of Jimmy, some respect has to be shown to 'Vertigo'.  I've read some "it's overrated" talk on some other groups here, and that's crazy talk to me.  Completely realized, dark and mysterious as the professor of Dark And Mysterious Things at Psychological Suspense University, 'Vertigo' is, categorically, The S h i t. 'North By Northwest' was my first Hitch film, so it'll always have a soft spot for me, and I find it highly rewatchable and entertaining.  In much the same way that divinemsjunebug mentioned the class of Cary Grant, the same has to be said for Grace Kelly.  Eternally stunning and smart. How abou ... Re: Romero's 'Diary of the Dead'
By sonofkinski in Zombie Obsession
"'Martin' is one of my favorite horror movies, and it's easily one of Romero's best.  The main character (John Amplas...I think?, who also had a quick cameo in 'Dawn of the Dead') is really well drawn.  Upon just writing this, in fact, I can't think of a "modern" vampire movie I like more.I also really like the radio/TV correspondence in NOTLD.  Worthless, but personal, sidenote: I was born in one of the towns mentioned in the television news broadcast...Greenville, PA.  And judging by the people I met there through the years, the zombie epidemic was/is alive and well... ""No more Mr. Knife Guy!".Holy cock/balls.  I've never seen 'Wild Wild West'.  Wow.Somewhere, Freddy Kreuger spins in his (temporary, I'm sure) grave.Whenever Kreuger sounds like David Mamet by comparison, something wee-todd-head this way comes. " [More]

Romero's 'Diary of the Dead'
By sonofkinski in Zombie Obsession
"Romero's newest has finally come to the festival circuit, and since he's the fucking POPE of the dead, we need to gear up.  Forgive my lack of hyperlinking below -- I'm an interweb idiot:IMDB page: http://imdb.com/title/tt 0848557/Ain't It Cool: http://www.aintitcool.co m/node/33992Thoughts on George's previous efforts:'Night of the Living Dead': My stepfather, a generally unpleasant human being in every other respect, went out of his way when I was 10 years old to rent the original NOTLD for me because, "You like horror movies, and this is the best one ever." He may have been right.  The b&w photography is beautiful (and gets better with time), the claustrophobic setting is effective, and the oft-discussed social undertones convey a certain mindset of the time.  A truly perfect film, worthy of its status, and hardly matched...unless you include'Dawn of the Dead': More gore, more humor, more social commentary, more claustrophobia, MORE.  It& ... Re: Dead Clowns
By sonofkinski in Zombie Obsession
"I actually own 'Dead Heat', as it came in an Anchor Bay "Fright Pack" DVD box set that's price was waaaay too good to pass up (other titles included 'The City of the Living Dead' and 'The House by the Cemetary').  Vincent Price was wasted (maybe due to age, but if you score VincentFuckingPrice for your V-grade horror movie, wouldn't you use him as much as possible?), and the humor falls flat, but it does qualify for the so-bad-it's-good category.  I can't think of a more laughably bad buddy cop pairing than Piscopo and Treat, outside of possibly Frank Stallone and Don Swayze...which I think might have actually happened in some grade-Y action movie.'Dead Clowns' - I'd watch... "You're right, Gor -- I misread your previous post and tried to go with "straightforward" examples of horror within sci-fi.  All are good examples, with the 'Alien' franchise probably being the ultimate embodiment. " [More]

"Having a wife looking like Barbara Hershey on one of her good days ('Boxcar Bertha' through ' 'The Stunt Man') is reason enough to be able to enjoy a Joel Schumacher film.It IS "amok", isn't it? Never feels right to type, but I'd swear I've read it as such...'Tigerland': never viewed.  You know why ('Batman Forever'). " [More]
