"As with the first Harry Potter movies, Rent and several other recent adaptations, I feel that the creator of this movie just didn't get it. The first Harry Potter films neglected the playful humor of the books, leading the magical world of wizardry to be portrayed a lot darker a lot earlier on than in the novels. In addition Rent, a completely musical work about New York life of poor artists in the mid nineties was totally ruined once again by another Christopher Columbus interpretation. For one, they were no longer young artists, but decade conflicted middle aged stage performers struggling to adapt their original roles to the spoken lines and new 80’s surroundings. In addition, all of New York was ON FIRE- I could go on. But for this movie, which was Columbus free, the simple question that enraged my mind as a viewer remained. Did anyone take the time to read the book? Did anyone really read it for what it was, not as its potential for a new blockbuster. Did anyone sit ... " [More]

"Upon veiwing the film, I had no backround about its creators or its star. The asumption I had made was that the two were professionals. One actor, the other videographer. I wrongly assumed that the relationship between the two was closer to the husband and wife duo of "Look Both Ways" instead of the reality that they were just brothers who wanted to make a movie. The movie was interesting: what it chose to say- how it chose to say it. I didn't feel that I wanted to turn it off. I was genuinly attached to the different characters, my heart went out to them. Thier plights were beleivable. The scene where Josh breaks down was intense. The subject matter encorporating the mid twenties worry of getting married was genuinly shown through Emily's idealistic views through the drunken marrage and her actual relationship with Josh. The elemetry camera work didn't bother me until after I investigated the film makers and thier previous works. What I felt was a stylized cam ... " [More]

"I know its a new one, but can I just add "The Painted Veil"? The music enriched the cultural aspect of the story and played off of the unspoken emotions. Lang Lang's Piano pieces were particularly enchanting. " [More]

Range of Character
"I agree that Edward Norton does show a wide range of characters from his first role in Primal Fear, to Fight Club, Death to Smoochy, The illusionist and even the painted veil. Note worthy actor, although not quite "New", is Heath Ledger. Sure he started out with movies like A Knights Tale, but he has done Lords of Dogtown, Brothers Grimm and Brokeback mountain. The accents and characters he developed for the movies were complex and completly original and seperate from each previous role. In one year he appaered as a womanizer with a british accent in Casonova and a homosexual cowboy with a western one in BrokeBack. I feel that he is more than just a pretty face for romantic comedies like Ten Things I hate about you and A knights Tale and is on par with Depp and Norton. " [More]

"King Kong was a beautiful film. The rich attension to historical detail, the dark color pallet, the acting in accordanace to the 1933 film era it tributes- I really enjoyed this film. The most common complaint was that the movie was too long. For a movie, I have to agree that one eight of your day is too long. However I feel that this film was epic. Like a great novel there are some parts that add certain aspects to the over all story which are not essentail to the main plot. The time on the island could have taken a simple half an hour. The movie could have been much shorter. The parts added, however worked to turn the film into roller coaster alternating with spine tingling drops into giant bug filled pits and building ascents to the top of Kongs natural paradise. I also think that Peter Jackson worked to make his film a tribute to the original. The scene in Jackson's film where Niami is preforming for the "movie" Jack Black is filming, the dialouge was taken from t ... " [More]

"Ever an Edward Norton fan I went into the movie theatre expecting something uniquely wonderful. When the movie began, the intriguing piano music in the background and dark lighting enriched the period sets and clothing. I immediately fell in love with the way the film was presented. However, since it was advertised as a love story I began to worry that I would hate it part of the way through, as a love story was clearly lacking. I feared it would fall under the category of once of those trying films which kept you intrigued only because you were waiting for something substantial to occur. As the movie went on, I knew why Norton was involved. As anticipated the story was uniquely wonderful. It told a beautiful story of evolved love. I genuinely enjoyed both the story, the acting, the period look and the haunting piano music by Lang Lang. " [More]

"When it came to superman, all i ever thought was that he was a five year old boys excuse to dress in tights. I loved the luis and clark series but was really too young to ever get into the original movies. Since viewing the film, all that has changed. I absolutely loved it, and it inspired me to investigate the film and comic book folk lore. After some reasearch and viewing the original movies, all I can say is that Superman is a universal being and quite cross generational. Every decade has their own version, the original was not even able to fly but only jump high. He also had a different backround and the Kents were never mentioned. This movie inspired me to actually enter a comic book store. I feel that like Peter Jacksons King Kong, Singer took a beloved movie from his childhood, reserected it, and gave a whole new generation a reason to love it. Even after seeing the first movies, I have very few qualms aboutthe way Singer choose to approach the plot. I feel that so many inco ... " [More]
