"Enemy of the State- Enjoyable. Likable performances from Smith and Hackman. Love the references sprinkled throughout to The Conversation. Interesting side notes (to me anyway) 1- written by David Marconi commercial radio invented by Guglielmo Marconi... coincidence? 2- Evil Reynolds born on September 11th wants to power through a bill that grants the NSA unlimited power to conduct surveillance on the populace. Vantage Point- yawn. I did laugh out loud however when after the 15 minute car chase through city streets Super agent Quaid radios in that he needs the president picked up 700 yards from the square where the chase started. Were they really going around in circles the whole time? Drillbit Taylor- I wonder which character Seth Rogen modeled on himself growing up? Broken English- Depressing and wonderful although at times a little to "indie". I marvel at how Parker Posey can always be so watchable even in stuff like Josie and the Pussycats. " [More]

"Les Formidables- An excellent Korean police action film. It stars Joong-hoon Park from the unforgettable and has to be seen to be believed Nowhere to Hide. The Lavender Hill Mob- delightful and funny. The photography is also beautiful at times. Some of the shots reminded me of Listen to Britain. Police Story- Jackie Chan is truly remarkable. Again. The Walker- An interesting film by Paul Schrader. Slow and steady the mystery unfolding gently as befitting the southern dandy at the centre of the mystery. A good turn by Mr. Harrelson. Kung Fu Panda- Fun and enchanting. The animation is vivd and sucks the viewer in to this world. My one complaint would be Dustin Hoffman as Shifu. His voice lacked a certain something for the role. on the other hand James Hong was "Indeeed" a treat to hear as Po's father. The Beast with a Billion Backs- This full length Futurama movie could have been better, while it was well served by the writing it was missing a little bit of zip, or so I thought. Sp ... " [More]

"Come Drink With Me- awesome and well worth the wait to see it. Thank you Dragon Dynasty. Heroes of the East- Amazing Chinese vs. Japanese martial arts movie. Definitely, maybe- A pretty good romantic comedy. Clever storytelling device, likable cast, all in all an enjoyable time. The Spiderwick Chronicles- a really scary kids movie. If i had seen this when I was ten I might have wet'em. I know this is based on a series of books are there anymore coming? " [More]

"Eastern Condors- Sammo is Awesome. Ditto for Yuen Biao. The Fighting Fists of Shanghai Joe- Spaghetti version of Kung Fu. Vexille- Ghost in the Machine did it better. Although the metal version of the Arrakis sandworm is kind of cool. Marked for Death- one of 3 watchable (leaning to good) Seagal movies. All About Eve- a much better version of SWF. " [More]

"Ghost Delivery- A Thai comedy that mixes Hellraiser, Ghost, The Sixth Sense, The Net and Ghostbuster (except instead of catching ghosts they deliver them-like pizza). Funny and strange for fans of Asian comedies only. Manhattan- First time I had seen the whole thing and not just bits and pieces. Funny and unsettling (the 17 year old girlfriend is a little off putting seeing as how... well you know). Hemingway aside loved this movie. Funny and beautifully shot. " [More]

"1st- Commando- the eighties does it again. Black and white morals, indestructible supermen laying waste to vast armies of foes, and all in a brief little running time. Wonderful. This could use a sequel with Milano playing her character again all grown up and ready to whip ass in her father's legacy. 2nd- I see some people are taking the time to view this blog. I would like to hear/read your comments (positive or negative). Thanks for dropping by. Kasper " [More]

"Vince Vaughn's Wild West Comedy Show- Some funny moments, but they are all on the stage. Running Scared- This could be be my favorite Billy Crystal movie. The Great Escape- good everytime. China 9, Liberty 37- love Monte Hellman and Warren Oates. Two Lane Blacktop, Cockfoghter, this- all good. The Incredible Hulk- This is a saw-off with the Ang Lee Hulk. Both movies have things they do well and things that miss the mark. Maybe the third one will be just right? Chichi Ariki- Ozu movies are always an enlightening experience. His films are so different from everything else I watch. I love the change. " [More]

"Road House- classic 80's garbage. The morals are off the charts here. Inside Man- Love me some Lee. This film moves and breathes because of the camera work here and I dug all the little references to other films sprinkled throughout. Topkapi- A pretty good little heist film by Jules Dassin. Recaptures some of the tension of Rififi and includes some fantastic wrestling scenes (Night and the City anyone?) at a Turkish fair. An excellent Sunday afternoon watch, Thanks again TCM. Now the reason I've called you all here today.... The Happening- For a quick capsule review see the title of this blog entry. My wife and I were looking forward to this movie as we are both M. Night fans (Yes we even liked Lady in the Water) We are aware there exists a limited return on the twist ending, but thought the visuals and semi surreal qualities of his stories were always compelling. This however was a big disappointment. We felt the film was lacking the tension and suspense of his other works. (Cou ... " [More]

"The Negotiator- Picked this up out of curiosity and was placated for the running time. A okay balance of action and drama. The movie had a good if underused supporting cast and I did not hate Spacey in it (thats been a rare occurrence lately). F. Gary Gray is very hit and miss but somehow this lands smack in the middle. "To pick up where I left off.... Heaven And Hell- A hybrid Kung Fu musical, legend and morality tale. Stars the gentlemen from the 5 Deadly Venoms Sugar Hill- A Blaxploitation Zombie movie. Awesome. Thank you TCM! Cloverfield- this was okay...I think?... the farther I get from watching it the less I seem to remember... or care. The Orphanage- moody, atmospheric and somehow sweet. Horror movies the way they should be in my opinion more creep less gore. It made my skin crawl at times although some of it felt familiar. Son of Rambow- a sweet film about the childhood and the adolescent fantasies of young boys. Made me nostalgic for my own wasted youth playing "guns" in the river valley where I grew up. The film was bittersweet and the two young male leads were believable as well as enthusiastic. They seemed to really love making their movie as well as enjoy each others companionship. Silent Running- Dern and Drones. I liked it but would have preferred a more nihilistic outlook and end ... " [More]

"In the last month I finished a degree, refinished the hardwood floors, and watched some movies. In no particular order: Semi-Pro- this was entertaining and a million times funnier than Blades of Glory. This reminded me of why I loved Anchorman complete immersion in the character and a deluded sense of his own majesty and importance. The scene at the league meeting is gold. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull- A little disappointing, to much CGI and the ride in the fridge was a little much. I felt the films action scenes were a little to familiar. The 36th Chamber of Shaolin- A classic. My wife has decided to begin to educate herself in the martial arts film genre. A great place to start her training with the ultimate training film. The Golden Compass- Entertaining, I hope the sequels spend a little less time on exposition. PTU- Love the To. He makes highly watch-able genre pieces that blend in story elements from some classic films. PTU seems like a cross between Hea ... " [More]
