"Yes. In Europe there were not as stringent 'animal cruelty' laws as there are in the US. It is quite obvious that the makers of this movie bought (or caught) some rats and set them on fire and filmed them scampering about for a COUPLE of scenes in this movie! Animal cruelty in the movies is nothing new ( Cannibal Holocaust, Cannibal Ferox) But when I mentioned that "Conan The Barbarian" was filmed in Europe specifically so that they could use 'trip-wires' on the horses, a certain young lady abanded our group forever out of disgust. I guess some people feel pretty strongly about this subject. "

"When you say Pasolini's death has been disputed, are you saying there are people who are disputing as to whether he died at all?? Or are you saying that the circumstances surrounding his death are disputed. In the latter case, I would not say he is the ONE director where this is true. What about William Desmond Taylor?
Rizzo, I would like to get a prescription for whatever drugs you are on... "

"I think Peter Jackson proved that CGI effects CAN be PERFECT with his LOTR trilogy. They can also be pretty dismal... try watching "King Of The Lost World" sometime ! I much prefer the 'old-school' method of film-making... Romero, Fulci, Argento, D'Amato, Bava, Leone, Barker, Craven, Hooper, H. G. Lewis... It just looks more 'real' if it is filmed for 'real' ... check out the 'Rats-On-Fire' in "The Hunchback Of The Morgue" ... That is a little TOO real for comfort... "

"You ask the most basic yet most interesting questions, Elmonstro. Please keep up the good work! This question is open to MUCH debate and I'm sure will ignite a firestorm in here... maybe... The more I think about the question the more I keep coming up with the same answer... "Frankenstein" (1931) . I have several reasons for choosing this movie and not the least of which is that, whether he admits it or not, George Romero was HIGHLY inspired by this one when he wrote NOTLD... This one and the 1958 Vincent Price film "The Last Man On Earth" ... It would be easy to mention "Psycho" and "The Haunting" and "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and even "Halloween" and "Friday The 13th" and "Nightmare On Elm Street" under this catagory but for me it all basically boils down to one movie... "Frankenstein" ... "

"
I can't believe nobody has mentioned Pier Paolo Pasolini. Surprisingly the only Italian director that I own and whose movies I have watched and loved, Pasolini definitely belongs among the list of great Italian horror directors. Salo, or the 120 Days of Sodom, remains the only film that has actually made me lose the contents of my stomach (not a lot, just a little in my mouth). The insane nature of the subject matter goes above and beyond pretty much anything I have ever seen. If you haven't seen it, you definitely have to check it out.
Thanks for that, mercurial, and please don't be offended that I have to interject here. Whenever you mention a movie like this you should add a WARNING that this movie is NOT for everyone! I purchased and watched this movie awhile back and I'm almost sorry I did. This movie was TERRIBLE! Think 'Nekromantik' meets John Water's 'Multiple Maniacs' ... only nastier... Still, I watched the whole thin ... "

Serialicious
"While Clint Eastwood's "Inspector Harry Callahan" could be classified as a "serial killer" himself (He HAS racked up quite an impressive body count over the course of his films), it is a little known fact that the original Dirty Harry was actually based on the Zodiac Killer case. So now, having established relevence to this group, I just wanted to say that I just heard the news that Eastwood is making a new "Dirty Harry" movie and that the soon-to-be 78 year old (!) actor/director is intending to kill off the beloved character. I think this is a brilliant move by Eastwood that will neatly put an end to the franchise and forever secure his place in cinematic history. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Also, as I recently mentioned elsewhere, I heard the rumor that Sly Stallone is intending to step into the shoes of the late great Charles Bronson and take over the Death Wish franchise. Now HERE was a TRUE "serial Killer" who also happened to be a beloved "hero"! Any t ... "

"
It's been maybe a year, perhaps year and a half, and I'm in the process of relocating my site to new servers so I can restore the images, links, update new movies and so forth. "
Any clue where to find uncut and hard to find releases of movies, like mom and pop websites? The only place I know and use is http://www.diabolikdvd.com/ and http://xploitedcinema.com/cata log/index.php. I just ordered something from Cinefear video, just to check them out.
To tell you the truth, the best place to find those 'hard-to-find' titles is right here at SPOUT! I have purchased more than a dozen movies from here that simply cannot be found anywhere else. Back in the day, from the late 80's - 90's, I was dealing with half a dozen VHS 'bootleg' companies but they have all been driven out of business by the advent of the DVD... One of my old favorites, 'Midnight Video' recently had a 'going out of business sale' and I purchased about 15 VHS tapes from them... some of which I wish I hadn't! They are gone now but I think that 'SinisterCinema' is still active... they have ALL of your hard to find pre-1970's movies.... ... "

"
I'm not really not sure if this would qualify as a horror movie, but The Monster in No Such Thing for sure!
Wow, Rizzo. I had never heard of that movie before but it looks pretty freaking cool! I have added it to my list of 'must-see' movies! Thank you very much! Is there any nudity? I thought long and hard before naming Dracula my favorite horror movie character. I thought about Freddy and Quasimodo and Regan (from The Exorcist) and Lt. Kinderman ( from The Exorcist ...Lee J. Cobb giving the performance of his career) and Rhodes (from Dawn Of The Dead) and Quint (from JAWS) ... Dracula is the coolest (if not the smartest) horror movie icon of all time. He has appeared in more movies than anyone else and his sense of style and his passion for the young ladies and his supernatural abilities are second to none. Dracula IS the King. < GOR > "
