Season Three holds some of the best episodes to date in the series. One particularly telling episode is Death in a Different Place, which dealt very bravely with homosexuality on the police force. It was groundbreaking for its time and holds true even to this day. The reactions each character has when dealing with this new information is particularly telling of the characters themselves: anger, fear, disbelief, and acceptance are all experienced. In The Plague, Starsky is shown to go to the ends of the earth to save Hutch from the deadly disease. He even offers a known criminal safe passage in return for Hutch’s health. Again, a very telling comment on how far they would go for each other and how much they would sacrifice. With issues such as vengeance, false accusations, child abuse, and racism, it was truly a show that was presenting the reality of society around them.
