HORROR MOVIES 101
"
William Desmond Taylor, from the Fatty Arbuckle scenario. I hate to say this and I am hoping not to sound rude but there is a huge difference between drug addicted deaths or narcs and politically motivated deaths! They are saying Pasolini was talking about death before he died and this movie Salo, drove him nuts. He also pissed off alot of Fascit pople and even maybe the mafia. If you are going to go down the William Desmond Taylor ave, then we should throw in Bob crane! And I honestly dont think this has anything to do with horror italian.
Well I honestly don't know much about it. I am just saying they are both directors whose deaths are debated or unsolved. I don't think there's necessarily any other similarity than that. I was just trying to come up with a list of other directors who have mysterious deaths. I like coming up with lists. Anyways, thanks for the info. I've heard about Bob Crane. I've been curious to see that movie about ... "

"Woah! The Decalogue and Winter Light are both fantastic! That makes me want to see Early Summer too now! I know what you are saying about the "Yeah let's watch it again!" thing. But Winter Light is at least one I wouldn't mind watching again every few years. As opposed to some movies that I think are just as good but I could probably watch them a couple times a year and still enjoy them. "

"When you say Pasolini's death has been disputed, are you saying there are people who are disputing as to whether he died at all?? Or are you saying that the circumstances surrounding his death are disputed. In the latter case, I would not say he is the ONE director where this is true. What about William Desmond Taylor? "

A Boy and His Dog
Re:70's Sci-Fi films

"
I just saw the amazingly bizarre A Boy and his Dog (1975, L.Q. Jones, USA). Has anyone seen it? The biggest problems with the movie is that it introduces several interesting ideas and does not explore them. For example, there's a threatening force called the screamers that if they so much as touch you, you'll die. Don Johnson plays Vic, a sex crazed staple of masculinity. The ending is incredibly funny, and well realize as it bring the movie round full circle. Get this tageline- "A Rather Kinky Tale of Survival"
I have seen A Boy and His Dog. It's been a while though. I love the atmosphere it paints, especially with those screamers yeah. But the ending is so bizzarre. I guess it's that trippy 70's stuff for you. Interesting to note that IMDB claims it was based on a story by Harlan Ellison. "

B Movies
"In response to Kevin and Adam I totally agree that there is something much more endearing about knowng the creativitiy that went into tangible effects rather than just CGI stuff. Even though CGI looks so amazing you can still somehow detect when it's fake, even subconciously. Even if they are advanced enough to include realistic imperfections or make the CGI object look like it fits with the grain of the film or the quality and angle of the lighting, it has always been completely programed. Where as with real effects the results are often unpredictable which makes them so real. Things don't always line up right on camera, or things go out of focus, or something is exposed that you didn't expect. Not only that, actors are reacting to something that might really be there instead of something added later. Just like the difference between the old and new Star Wars movies. I'm very curious to see how this difference plays out in the new Indiana Jones movies as well. There's someth ... "

"What a brilliant metaphore! And I know what kind of movie you are talking about. But even if I don't "enjoy" it the same way I might with a goofy comedy or some such. A movie that makes me keep coming back I enjoy because of that. Because it makes me wonder what it's all about. It invites me to ponder the images. "

"
Yep, it's in Rosemont at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare and the Rosemont Convention Center. The cost is $50 for full weekend entry, $30 for only Friday or only Saturday, and $25 for only Sunday. You can check out www.acen.org for more details. If you end up going you should definitely come watch Otaku Quest on Sunday; a certain anime-loving-spout-using someone happens to be running that event ;)
Out by O'Hare eh? What time on Sunday is this event? "

"I was pretty sure Pasolini was murdered before the release of this film. At least according to the dates he was murdered on November 2, 1975 and the movie was premiered on November 22, 1975. Maybe there was an unofficial screening prior to this though... "

Team Baby: Miami Heat Baby

"
Is this it?
I actually just read the synopsis of this DVD and I find it kind of frightening. Designed for toddlers and youngsters, Team Baby: Miami Heat Baby exposes little ones to the history of Miami Heat basketball while utilizing music and bright colors in order to help superfans pass on their obsession. If you think the way that I sometimes do, that sports fandom can sometimes approach the same kind of blind fanatacism that has characterized dangerous radical political movements, then this almost seems like it's taking the next step towards something like Team Baby: Neo-Nazi Baby or some such.
