"this is a wonderful movie, which i don't understand and which i couldn't explain if i had to! its a great twisty story that will have you thinking and rethinking everything you know (when it comes out on DVD i'm going to see if i can figure it out by watching it again). i don't really fall into the mystery/horror/sci-fi demographic but i found it very entertaining. "i saw this as an HDNet sneak preview or whatever its called. i loved John Malkovich and the story was interesting but Colin Hanks was kind of boring and unfortunately, despite the movie's title, the story was more about him. Emily Blunt was good, as always, but could have had more to do. an overall neutral movie for me but i think worth seeing for John Malkovich. " [More]

"the synopsis/description refers to this as a comedy but i don't really agree. if you like Tim Robbins (as i do) you will probably find it interesting. its different and a little odd but different is good - right? i also liked that i couldn't tell how it would end. " [More]

"to get this out of the way, i thought the family in this movie was really annoying! i didn't like them very well and my husband hated them. watching them interact together, especially a scene where they had a race filling the dishwasher, was absolutely painful. why that matters is that this movie plunked us down in the middle of their lives as they were living through this very stressful weekend and we were there living it too - we could have been an usher or maybe a cousin or something. it was like it was happening to us, a big difference from just watching other people being dysfunctional (Margot at the Wedding). it was more personal somehow. It also subtly captured the way some families can't connect and how things are left "on the surface" because its easier. yes, Anne Hathaway was amazing but so was everyone else (Debra Winger was absolutely perfect). anyway, annoying people but a wonderful movie. it had won me over even before the Neil Young song! "ok, i'm not a wine person but that didn't stop me from enjoying Sideways, one of my favorite movies. the story idea of Bottle Shock is interesting but the writing really is pretty bad/cliched, the worst being a speech where Freddy Rodriguez waxes passionate about how you have to grow up among the vines and get your hands dirty to be a real winemaker. i love Freddy and he is one of the few bright spots in this movie (ditto Dennis Farina) but overall i thought it was a real groaner. "i don't have time to write reviews but i pretty much liked everything i saw. unlike apparently everyone else who's seen it, i'm not such a big fan of "Slumdog Millionaire" and thought it was just OK. i loved the silents and the film noirs best, especially "The Last Command." we had a good year this time and were only shut out of one movie all weekend. i was sorry i didn't get to see the tributes and i would have liked to see the other film noir. Mary Pickford: The Muse Of The Movies Happy-Go-Lucky The Last Command (with the Alloy Orchestra) Nightmare Alley Kisses The Rest Is Silence With A Little Help From Myself Italian Straw Hat You Must Remember This (part 2) On Dangerous Ground Slumdog Millionaire Laughing 'Til It Hurts (5 silent shorts) O'Horten " [More]
