HORROR MOVIES 101
"Damn! you are good Doc. as always, thank you for your scholarship I remembered reading this bit about our 'fair lady' a while back: http://rigint.blogspot.com/sea rch?q=hungarian+killers Thursday, October 19, 2006 Necromocracy (Part Two) "I have to question whether there is an evil force in the world and whether or not I have been influenced by it." - Jeffrey Dahmer.Much like Gilles de Rais, the sixteenth century Hungarian Countess Elizabeth Bathory is notorious for tearing apart young children to satisfy her sex-magical appetite. Her taste was for girls, more than 600 of them, and she was able to consume so many of them because it was only late in her career that she turned her desires to the daughters of her own kind. Down the hill, beneath her castle, villagers had "often claimed to have heard screams emanating from within this place, and they spoke of disappearing girls and of murder, but no one had dared approach the regal, 50-something countess until now. Word had come to ... "

"

If it was for the DavidLynch.com film, it was because there was no space between Dynamic, the colon, and 01. I've corrected this. Let me know if it continues to be an issue, Xavier
it is still an issue for me; please see my recent post in Foreign Gems...The Flims appear to link, that is, they are highlighted in the post, but do not appear associated with the Post nor linked to the film on the film page...
As you probably noticed, we changed the Link a movie feature, so it may have to do with your browser, what browser and platform are you running? Are you using the Link a Movie or the chain link function? In link a movie, when you select a movie you want to link, you are taken to a second screen which confirms the text as it will appear on the screen. If you could explain the steps you're taking, that would be very helpful. Xavier
Here goes, I am on Windows XP for a Tablet PC; I believe it is ... "

"
I just saw Red Zone Cuba - that was one of my favorites. I just don't know. I was really upset when Joel was replaced but then Mike won me over. So it's a toss up. I think Mike has a better sense of humor...hmmm
I was looking for a quote from Red Zone Cuba and found these sites: http://www.svamcentral.org/mst /quotes/ http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/M ystery_Science_Theater_3000 however I cannot find the one I am looking for; it went something like this: 'In the wild, a Curly will reach speeds up to 60 mph' "

"

Please add: David Lynch's Dynamic:01: The Best of DavidLynch.com http://www.imdb.com/title/tt12 19057/ Overall, I suspect it is not all that great, more interesting in terms of his process, but it is most assuredly worth viewing just for the 'Out Yonder-Neighbor Boy' segment and the hilarious 'Beesbeing' dialogue and seeing the hand-written script where 'beesbeing' is scrawled throughout. "I hope that this film is as good as having Coulrophobia...at least, from the promises at the end of this post, there IS a cure for Pupaphobia '...Several theories attempt to explain the origins of the phobia, though none seem definitive. One of the more interesting comes from Kathryn Cillick. She believes most people are afraid of clowns because it's impossible to gauge a clown's true emotions. Thanks to painted-on smiles, people can't distinguish if the clown is as happy as he seems or if he's actually about to bite somebody's face off. ...' http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C oulrophobia Coulrophobia is an abnormal or exaggerated fear of clowns. It is not uncommon among children, but is also sometimes found in teenagers and adults as well. Sufferers sometimes acquire a fear of clowns after having a bad experience with one personally, or seeing a sinister portrayal of one in the media. A design study carried out by the University of Sheffield found that children are frightened by clown ... "

Friends of Foreign Flicks
"An interesting observation, that I completely agree with, however do you not suspect that we, here, receive only a portion of the films made in various countries? I wonder if the bulk of films out of any country are not just as bad as those produced here are ( for instance I have seen plenty of Japanese, Korean, Chinese, 'Asian' that are simply as god-awful as anything from USA )??? Are we just getting the 'cream of the crop' and basing the judgement on that? No matter, walking into a video story, closing my eyes at the foreign section and picking, I cannot imagine not pulling out something worthwhile. I think what set my interest in motion was going through a 'humanities' class which part of it was watching 'great' films and seeing that english language films made up only 2 to 3 percent of the total and thinking hmmmm, 'what the hell am I missing?' A plus to the foreign films is seeing how the particular cultures are visible through the film; dynamics of family, class, relations ... "

"Not bad that it comes to this, but to respond to the question, I found the Joel episodes much more interesting and cutting than the Mike episodes. I like Joel! Furthermore, I enjoyed his personality much more than Mike's and somehow the bots' seemed more interesting, the big 'however' is, after rewatching some, I found the Mike episodes funnier. WTF! So to answer your question, I don't know. Wasn't Mike the head writer throughout? Unfortunately, I thought the show got absymally bad ( but still pretty darn good! ) at the end of the run. Your next discussion thread should be favorites; me they would be and not in order ( the link function is not working at the moment, so i will edit this with the links later; a plus to the DVD, you can watch most of the films as originally shown with out the show) Catalina Caper Eagah Hamlet I Accuse my Parents Mitchell Red Zone Cuba Sidehackers The Wild Rebels "

Soylent Green

extraordinary moments
"Soylent Green; maybe it is the Beethoven. Or maybe the almost maudlin character of the scene, or maybe something altogether different. However as Sol Roth ( Edward G. Robinson ) slips into the (his ) Suicide Theater, his theater screen goes live and Beethoven's Symphony No. 6, Third Movement begins... hardly a better way to go, I imagine. That movement, perhaps indicates dancing and just having a great time and then concludes In a faster tempo, ends and then begins the Fourth Movement Allegro. This movement portion perhaps is meant to convey a violent thunderstorm which ended the partying in the Third Movement. I would have loved to see the suicide theater scene end with the music continuing straight in to the Fourth Movement and then cutting abruptly to rioting and the last hysterical lines:Det. Thorn: It's people. Soylent Green is made out of people. They're making our food out of people. Next thing they'll be breeding us like cattle for food. You've gotta te ... "

extraordinary moments
"Perhaps this scene hit me so having suffered bouts of the deep and dark depression throughout my life, but in Mother Night, Nick Nolte's character, Howard W. Campbell, mid-morning, walking along the sidewalk in New York City full of others, just comes to a complete and full stop, stuck and stays there until late in the evening on the dark, deserted, streetlightlit sidewalk until a Police Officer comes up to him and through some questions, gets him to decide to move on. It seemed he could stay there forever. The voice over quotes follow:Howard W. Campbell Jr.: I was deposited on to the streets of New York, restored to the mainstream of life. I took several steps down the sidewalk when something happened. It was not guilt that froze me; I had taught myself never to feel guilt. It wasn't the fear of death; I had taught myself to think of death as a friend. It was not the thought of being unloved that froze me; I had taught myself to do without love. What froze me was the fact ... "
