As if nuns weren't scary enough ...

"I saw this movie and was scarred by the cruelty of the nuns and priest to the young women protagonists in this film. It was like they were running their own little concentration camp- terrible punishment, constant ridicule and debasement, slave labour essentially.....no gas chambers....ok....calling it a concentration camp was a little extreme, but it was terrible! And you felt sooo bad because the unfortunate women who ended up at this hellish establishment didn't do anything to be "rightfully" sent to it in the first place. No women should have been living like that. However, at the time, women who were labelled by society as harlots, troublemakers, or f*ckups had to be put away somewhere to allow the "good" citizens to live in a "cleaner" world where everybody is pure and dedicated to the lord. Pure crap.Good movie. Watch it and feel your blood boil with these women. " [More]

"I thought this was a good production of the famous opera "La Boheme" by Puccini. Of course, I haven't seen any other stagings of the opera....but the singers were very good and their acting was good too. The costumes and set pieces were gorgeous because they were designed by Christine Martin- Baz Luhrmann's amazing, talented wife who also did the artistic designs for Moulin Rouge. Overall, it was a good, moving production. I cried substantially. " [More]

"I actually saw this movie at the San Francisco International Film festival with my German class. It was very beautiful- the shots of the interesting foods that appeared in the movie were gorgeous. The main characters were all engrossing in their own ways: the food-passionate, obese chef had such a funny, touching, self-deprecating personality; the waitress was also kinda quirky and endearing and a bit mysterious and lovely; the little girl with down syndrome was absolutely adorable and played a major part in the story. There's a big twist at the end that was totally shocking and hilarious. I would recommend this film to people who like quirky romantic comedies with a hint of drama and suspense. It's too bad that it's not getting the attention it deserves. " [More]
