"I grew up in an area that did not receive cable service and I've decided I can live without it, so I don't have memories of distinctive videos. However, slightly off-topic, I happened to catch the video for geeky Justin Timberlake's new song, which is horrible (both the song and the video). But when he sang the first line, "I'm bringing sexy back," I thought, "and how!" Yummy. " [More]

"[quote user="Waterfront13"] zuzu, I think you may have overlooked one difference between Schindler's List and Munich which is the fact that one story rests on the plot/events which occur while one attempts to address the psychological toil which the "eye for an eye" approach has on the soul of a person. Schindler's List ... was not about what drove these people to commit these acts... that would have been a directorial misstep on the part of Spielberg , in my opinion, because the viewer would be, on some level, encouraged to empathize with those who committed these acts. I'm honestly not sure there is any realistic way to justify those actions in a way that would serve the film... a film which I believe is more than effective enough as it is. [/quote] I see your point. I'm not sure if a film that explored motivations would necessarily encourage one to empathize with the Nazi's, but it would be a compelling learning tool as to why ordinary people go insane and how we might avoi ... "Oh, keep in mind I was in high school during the tail-end of the hair band era. The following is a list of those bands as well as other metal bands. Aerosmith, Black Crowes, Nelson (I was 14, I need to explain this), Van Halen, Scorpions, Whitesnake, Ted Nugent (don't hold it against me...my friend bought me a ticket so she didn't have to go by herself), Jackyl (This is becoming painful--wait! They opened for Ted Nugent), Dokken, Warrant, lots of shows that had Slaughter or Firehouse or Trixter opening (ugh), Slayer, Pantera, Skid Row, Testament, System of a Down, Snot, Sepultura, Steve Vai, David Lee Roth, Incubus. Seems like there were more, and most of them sucked. The noteworthy ones were Aerosmith, Pantera, and Steve Vai. Others may have deserved more credit, but may have been hindered by opening a show or playing a festival when I saw them. I do have other tastes. Michael Stern, Leo Kottke, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, Bruce Hornsby (I worked on his set, not much of a f ... " [More]

"I think instead of impeachment, this deserves subpoena. I would even almost nominate this one as Worst Movie Ever I hated it so much. To me, it truly was nothing more than one of those summer blockbusters that featured big names and big things falling down. True, the cinematography was impressive at times, but the director assumed that the audience should love the characters without any development; there was no emotional momentum for me. And what was with that scene in the tunnel where the (I think) woman was trying to outrun a bomb explosion? It was so incredibly ridiculous to me that it was one of the (few) most memorable moments in the movie, and it's still foggy. " [More]

"I remember three things about this movie. It was the first movie in which I saw Jim Carrey, and I decided I would never again see a film with him in it (I have since changed my mind). Also, I remember that I hated the movie so much that I turned it off an never looked back after the first 15 minutes. However, I remember a scene in which Ace Ventura was driving down the road with his head out the car window like a dog, and that made me laugh. So, yes, I can understand why it's here, but I also think it could be argued due to a matter of taste. " [More]

"I will conceed that Schindler's List showcased Spielberg's best effort. But consider the subject matter of both movies...it's hard not to get noticed if you make movies that summon such extremes of emotion. Also, in Schindler's List, as in Munich, the characters themselves were not explored to the extent they deserved. In both films, he tended to showcase the atrocities that were commited on the vicitims rather than exploring what drove people to commit these acts. It certainly was more apparent in Munich, and I would not say Schindler's List was bad. It was a solidly good movie. I just don't think it was as spectacular as everyone else regarded it. " [More]

"I will now vote on Munich. I agree with Paul (from another thread) that it is certainly not Worst Movie material, but IS a Lackluster. Spielberg has an annoying habit of choosing the easiest topics to elicit strong emotion, but never does anything beyond what is on the surface. While watching Munich, I couldn't help but think of Schindler's List. He capitalizes on the most awkward and gut-wrenching scenes to carry his underdeveloped films through. Think about the scene in Schindler's List when the women were coralled in the nude into the warehouse with sprinklers on the ceiling. For several agonizing moments, you were subjected to these terrifed women who expected at any moment to be gassed to death. After you're thoroughly sick to your stomach, the sprinklers finally come on and they are actually showered. In Munich, there is the scene when the Jewish spies go to assassinate the woman spy, and there is the awkward moment of assembling the weapons while she watches them...o ... " [More]
