"as many of you have mentioned, i too have seen too many shows to list here in one space. however, i will offer a sampling of some of my more favorite shows that will hopefully widen the genre offering (as tmoney has asked for -- btw tmoney, it sounds like you're off to pitchfork in union park this weekend. enjoy!). and in no particular order of cool shows: U2, Coldplay, Ron Sexsmith, David Grey, Phish (club show in Prague!), The Flaming Lips, KMFDM, Sound Garden, Neil Young, Garbage, Moby, Mudhoney, Jeff Tweedy (of Wilco), MartinMedesky&Wood, Buddy Guy, Lenny Kravitz, The Counting Crows, Live, Sufjan Stevens, Koko Taylor, Guster, The Kingston Trio, Over the Rhine, Beastie Boys, Nine Inch Nails, and Santana. the Phish show i caught in prague was hilighted in the documentary "bittersweet motel". the day before the show i was a few blocks from the theatre where they were going to perfom and mike gordon (bassist) walked by with a film crew trailing him, and he actually stop ... "i live in a small town that is home to a small college. this small college owns and operates a small theatre; an art house, if you will. throughout the year this theatre brings in films by independent filmmakers from around the country and around the world. many of the films come to this town garnered with golden palm leaves and other accolades awarded at all the best festivals: sundance, cannes, venice, berlin, toronto. and from time to time the theatre brings in classics. this theatre is one of the reasons i decided to come back to this small college town. i first came here twelve years ago to go to school; to study art and philosophy, and see what it would be like to live in a time zone i had only visited a few times in my youth. shortly into my first semester i visited this theatre and saw a classic: MGM's "that's entertainment". i came back a week later with a friend and we saw "father of the bride" with spencer tracy. the following week we were back to catch bran ... "i pretty much am all about supporting the little guy. i don’t know why...i just do. maybe it’s because that the little guy doesn’t have to march to the drum of some corporate mantra that may or may not matter to that particular shop // satellite location. generally the local spot will have a more unique flavor than its mega-corp big brother; it has atmo. usually the guys at the local music shop are going to provide a better customer experience for me because they understand the “heart” part of business. they get it. they still have the passion, the desire to do what it is that they do. same thing with the local cafe. does the brew just taste better at the local coffee house? there are two local cafes in my “hometown” that i frequent on a daily (many times a day?) basis. i love them. they are a couple more verbs // pages in my story. they are important to me and my community. however, i do on an occasion stumble in on (or just drive over to) the local starbucks (gasp! ... "i am ecstatic that there is finally a place where i can come and celebrate this incredible art: film. the last few days, as i have wandered through my new digs here, i have found that going through the daunting task of cataloging my entire film life to be both a daunting challenge and a really therapeutic experience. there is something quite cathartic about reaching down deep into my memory and finding those films that are attached to those times in my life that help qualify who i am today. my existence (or existenz -- thanks herr jasper) has been both formed and complimented by my film experiences. the great swedish film visionary, ingmar bergman, once told us that art imitates life. i think it does. i also support woody allen's retort that life imitates art. touché. it's great that there is now a place where i may list all the films i've ever seen, let other's know which ones are my favorite, and to show off my personal film library. and i get to look at the lif ... "this one should be fairly easy to find. i own 2 copies of it (one was a gift from the 'rents). i think i found my copy at Target or Best Buy. it is part of a double feature with 'Holiday Inn' with bing and fred astaire (this film was the song debut for 'white christmas). i think i've seen it at another big-box store's movie area as well. if any of you want my vhs copy it's yours. let me know. "ok kids: i just stumbled across the list here and i am a little bit intrigued. i noticed that much of the list is comprised of chuck norris. have you ever actually seen a chuck norris film? any? my first experience with one of his movies was over twenty years ago. the film was 'the octagon'. all i have to say is one word: ninjas. that is enough to catch the imagination of any 8 year old boy. was it a good movie and worth rewatching? at the time it didn't matter; it had ninjas. if i were to be flipping through the channels this weekend and the same movie was on some turner network channel would i watch it again? probably not. so, i'm not going to try to convince you to watch a chuck norris film. however, i will try to convince you to take a chance on 'clockwork orange'. there are two compelling reasons to do so: first, asides that it a critically acclaimed film, it is part of stanley kubrick's ouevre (does one really need to go further?) it comes from the same mi ...
